The start of the expendables is very much cliche of an action film, Firstly its in a foreign country Somalia and shows shifty black market dealings going on between some low class never American villains, (which will then most likely be connected to a higher power later on in the film) who wants to take. Then the 'badass' heroes roll in on there choppers iconically to get the bad guys. They then sneak in say something cool  before they open hell with their machine guns that never seem to run out of ammo.

Another cliche to pick up on is the fact that the baddy has a valuable hostage used as a human bidy shield.
